Celebrating 40 Years of Flaming Fist Kenpo in Exeter

This year, we’re celebrating a pretty special milestone — 40 years of teaching self-defense, discipline, and confidence at the Flaming Fist Kenpo Martial Arts Academy in Countess Wear, Exeter.

For four decades, our club has been a place where kids and adults come together to learn Kenpo, build strength, and develop skills that last a lifetime. We’re proud to have grown into a community of over 60 members here in Exeter, with sister clubs in Germany helping us spread the martial arts spirit even further.

At the heart of it all is our head instructor, Matt Snell — an 8th degree black belt who’s been with us from day one. Matt trained here when the club first opened and has dedicated his life to teaching and inspiring others. His passion and expertise have been the driving force behind the club’s success, and his journey from that first night to now is a real testament to the power of perseverance and dedication.

Over the years, we’ve seen so many people come through our doors — kids learning to stand tall and stay safe, adults gaining confidence and fitness, and everyone feeling part of something bigger. And even though we’re based in Exeter, our connections in Germany and friendships across Europe, mean the spirit of Kenpo is reaching even further, bringing people together across borders.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over these 40 years, and we’re excited about what’s ahead. Whether you’re looking to learn self-defense, get fit, or just try something new, we’d love to welcome you to our club. Come see what it’s all about — the strength, the discipline, and the community that’s kept us going for four decades.

Here’s to many more years of training, growth, and friendship!
